On another note.. I wrote to the lovely people of Sunbeam bread to get their comments about the commercials, the star, "John Engels" and other things, wrote them a very nice letter, here's their reply..

Thank you for writing to Flowers Bakeries about Sunbeam bread. Flowers
does produce Sunbeam products in some areas but we are not the Sunbeam
baker for your area. Sunbeam is a franchised label that is owned by
Quality Bakers of America. Many bakers belong to this organization and
produce products under the Sunbeam label. You will need to contact your
local Sunbeam baker. If you have a problem locating them you might try
contacting Quality Bakers at prusso@qba.com or call them at
973-263-6970
to get a list of their member bakers or for help in locating your local
bakery.

Thanks again for letting us hear from you.

This was several years before my time, but in the late 50's there was a kid show out of Seattle called J.P. Patches(The Simpsons did a shout out on one episode) and JP went to the Sunbeam factory in Seattle. I saw a clip on a special, and I guess the 50's were like that ad. Scary.

I did meet JP in the mid 70's and he is still around. http://www.jppatches.com

You could ask him what he thought of Sunbeam.
